Harvest and Crush Notes

2013 has been a high quality and generous year for grape growing. The early season was marked by healthy winter rains, followed by a dry spring and summer. An ideal ripening season produced fruit of gorgeous color and a great balance of sugars and acidity. When we harvested, on October 7th, the tannins were just great and the grapes were of standout quality. This gave our winemaker the opportunity to create a Mankas with superior flavors and aromas harmonized in a silky elegant structure. The 18 month wine aging process carefully controlled, and a bit longer than usual enhanced the complexity and brought optimal balance.

Winemaker’s Notes

The 2013 Mankas vintage is dominated by the power of the fruit and a great balance. Aromas of red and black fruit pleasantly fill the enjoyable nose of the wine to reveal more subtle tones of: vanilla, cloves and eucalyptus An elegant balance between fruit, acidity and tannins opens the way to a lingering pleasant finish. The subtle texture and finish partner remarkably well with simple and refined food without overpowering its taste.
