Varietal and Terroir
Produced with 100% Barbera grapes, a varietal autochthonous of Piedmont produced in the Barge area since the 14th century. Le Marie vineyards are located in mineral rich moraine deposits characterized by a mix of loams, sands and pebbles with excellent water drainage and sun exposure. The warm and dry summer climate, with terse sunshine days and occasional afternoon storms typical of the pre-Alps, favors the creation of rustic Barbera wines with unique character, low in tannins but rich in minerals and fruit content.
Harvest and Crush Notes
The small cluster Barbera grapes, with thick skinned berries, were hand harvested at the climax of phenolic maturity the last week of September. Following a careful selection and fermentation, a 7 days extended maceration was practiced to extract best aromas and flavors from the berry skins. Aging was done in a selection of Italian and French oak barrels of the best coopers.
