Harvest and Crush Notes
2016 Suisun Valley harvest came in right at the end September with a below average yield and exceptional quality. A warm January resulted in an early bud break. The season was then characterized by milder than average temperatures. An ideal ripening weather produced fruit of smaller berries with prime flavors and ideal balance of sugars and acidity. At harvest the tannins were excellent and the grapes were of uniform quality free of raisin. After fermentation the wine displayed superior flavors and aromas harmonized in a rich and elegant ruby red color. An 18 month barrel aging process followed by a 6 month rest in glass after bottling, created a wine of optimal balance, refined nose and outstanding palate.
Winemaker’s Notes
The Mankas II 2016 vintage is dominated by the power of the fruit and a refined complexity. Aromas of red and black fruit pleasantly fill the enjoyable nose of the wine to reveal more subtle tones of vanilla, cloves and eucalyptus. An ideal balance between fruit, acidity and tannins gives way to a lingering pleasant finish. The subtle texture and finish partner remarkably well with simple and refined foods without overpowering their taste.
