Harvest and Crush Notes

2012 was an outstanding year for grape growing that turned out above average yields with some prime quality. Almost ideal weather throughout the year generated grapes of exceptional flavors and wines of great balance.A few days of intense heat in September enabled an exceptional ripening of the Cabernet Sauvignon. In the cool of the Suisun Bay dawns we hand picked grapes with optimal brix and polyphenoles throughout October. The first lot was picked on October 4th and the last one on October 29th. This enabled the fermentation of wines of exceptional balance and complexity, with a broad tannin profile and regular alcohol content. The lots selected for the 2012 Mankas were aged for 14 months in a mix of neutral oak barrels from the best French and European coopers. Bottling was done in May 2013.

Winemaker’s Notes

The 2012 Mankas will be remembered as a vintage of outstanding balance and complexity. A broad fruit profile with notes of raspberries, black cherries and blueberries is enhanced by tones of soft vanilla, eucalyptus and black pepper. The subtle texture and finish partner remarkably well with food without overpowering its taste.
